Possibility

Every student knows what is possible for them.

Purpose

To make sure students leaving Classes 10 and 12 in government schools understand the full range of careers open to them, and know the concrete next step towards the one they choose.

Problem or opportunity addressed

Students in government schools often choose a stream or a course based on what a relative did, or what a neighbour suggested. Career counselling is almost entirely absent from the schools we work with.

Inspiration behind the project

A Class 12 student told me she wanted to be a doctor but had no idea that a nursing or paramedical route existed. She had assumed medicine was the only option, decided it was out of reach, and stopped considering healthcare entirely.

Long-term vision

A career-guidance session in every government school in Punjab, delivered by trained local volunteers rather than by us.

Students discovered career options they did not know existed.

In post-workshop surveys, 71% of students named at least one career route they had been unaware of before the session. Paramedical and vocational routes were the most frequently named.

Schools now request the programme rather than being approached.

Four of the seven schools we work with contacted us first, after hearing about the workshops from a neighbouring school.

Presented two years of results and proposed extending the programme to twelve more schools.

Agreement in principle to introduce the programme to schools across the district next academic year.

Career workshop at Government Senior Secondary School, Khanna

Khanna 105 people reached

Largest single session so far, delivered across two halls with parallel facilitation.

Immediate outcome

105 students guided. Twenty-two students expressed interest in paramedical routes they had not previously known about.

Career workshop at Government High School, Jagraon

Jagraon 78 people reached

First visit to Jagraon. Ran the standard workshop, adapted for a group with a higher proportion of students considering vocational training.

78 students guided. The school has asked us to return each term.

Model Town 34 people reached

Small-group follow-up with students who requested one-to-one guidance after the main workshop.

34 students received individual guidance on course selection and application timelines.

Career workshop at Government Senior Secondary School, Model Town

Model Town 92 people reached

Delivered a half-day career-mapping workshop for Class 12 students. Covered science, commerce, and vocational routes, with a session on entrance exams and scholarship deadlines.

Immediate outcome

92 students completed a personal career map. Fourteen asked to be connected to a mentor.
